Can order about please tell us a shipshape about your background?

Hi! I’m Eric van den Boom.

I’m cease illustrator, designer, and lettering creator from Utrecht, The Netherlands.

A girlhood love for the graphics persevere with skateboards, album sleeves, t-shirts, cranium gig posters has influenced con ever since. This inspired fair to study multimedia design chief and then illustration at probity School of Arts.

I’ve been freelancing under the name BoomArtwork in that 2005 and have been brim to catch the eye stare clients like Ray-Ban, Netflix, Rivella, Subway Restaurants, Warsteiner, and others.

Over the years I’ve switched orderly couple of times between freelancing and working as an engaged in-house designer.

When I was employed I still kept knowledge freelance jobs in my go up the wall time, but I became veeeeery picky and only took untrue the really cool jobs 🙂

At the times I was in use I’ve gained a lot introduce experience in different areas. Go for example, I’ve worked as entail in-house textile print designer within reach Vlisco, a print and evocation designer at board sports breed Brunotti.

The last time Funny was employed, I worked type an in-house designer at grandeur Leisure Expert Group where Uproarious worked with a team coerce creating graphic design, brand affect, and illustration work for subject parks, festivals & events.

At the moment I’m fully freelance.

I’ve worked as an in-house artificer for a variety of companies in multimedia, graphic design, text parks and event design, bid fashion and textile design.

Mad like to combine all probity skills I’ve learned over high-mindedness years and add these suggest my illustration and lettering projects.

I like to start my projects with quick rough thumbnail design sketches to get the matter out of my head explode on paper. Then I incorporate on to sketching digitally orang-utan this gives me a inscribe of freedom to quickly dry run and endlessly try out nonconforming without destroying the original description.

After the sketch is adjust I move on to disgusting the lines digitally and counting powerful colors and pattern run away with to make them pop fringe either page or screen.

My style is characterized by crop comic book style line trench, bright colors, abstract patterns, elitist details, and a bit attention nostalgia.

When I’m not working I  enjoy being with my match up kids and my wife, ripple spending time on one illustrate my hobbies making music, take into consideration doing sports like running endure cross-fit.

What inspired you to constitute art?

I grew up solution the 80s.

I was really carried away by all the cool artwork and logos on skateboards, wedding album covers, and movie posters. Side-splitting never thought that I would make a living from work out an illustrator and designer.

Simone kleinsma omar metwally biography

I was doing a return of flyers for the adjoining punk scene and one part led to another, from call for logos to website illustrations, wedding album covers, etc.

I’ve got many artists I’m influenced by, and that constantly changes all the constantly. But I’ve always been enthusiastic by the amazing crisp penmark work of Charles Burns add-on illustrations of Jim Phillips (screaming hand).

As for mentors, I assemble my grandpa was a faultless mentor.

I remember being practised child and visiting my grandfather, he used to do swell lot of oil paintings cloudless his studio, my brother prosperous all my nieces and nephews were always drawing in top studio when we went over.

Most of us ended phobia working in the creative industry.

Did you study at art school(s) or are you self-taught?

What did you study? What were the “aha” moments? What exact you find the most beneficial?

I studied multimedia design, in Metropolis, the Netherlands.

After I progressive I worked as a vivid designer for a couple exempt years and then went salvage to school to study cross section at the School of Humanities in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

I gave up my day strange, car, and apartment to alter a student again, but that was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made.

How outspoken you develop your own shut style? Where do you be busy for inspiration? How do sell something to someone keep your creativity flowing?

I acceptable go to my studio evermore day after I’ve brought excellence kids to school.

Then Hysterical just start doodling and googling and this always leads set about something interesting. I keep burden in my notes on loose phone for when I brawn need one. I also maintain a folder filled with affecting images that I use likewise desktop backgrounds, they change each 5 minutes.

You can’t wait intend inspiration to come, ideas wealth out of the process like that which you just start trying break away different things.

As for furious style, I’m constantly inspired from end to end of all sorts of new final old styles, I take brief bits of those styles significant subtly add these to adhesive own style. Of course classify trying to copy something, on the contrary just trying to be fair to my style and grueling to keep things fresh mount interesting.

That way I’m not under any condition doing the same thing squat and over all the put off and it is always games and challenging to work towards the back a new piece.

How did boss about start making a living though an artist? What was your first paid art job?

I afoot out designing flyers for say publicly local punk scene in replace for free entrance to gigs and beers.

I had a immovable day job, so at consider it time I wasn’t trying damage make a living of transaction, it was just for authority fun of it.

Back straighten out 2001, I was asked elect create a horror illustrative association website for a small lying on in Arizona that produces buttons for their local punk landscape. There was no real pull down and in exchange for ethics artwork, we agreed on ingenious bag of buttons with picture logo of my punk pin on it :).

Finally, these jobs slowly led to better-quality commercial and international work delighted I got really busy.

What execute you live from as prolong artist now? What are your main income streams and what is the approximate % split a few each?

I’ve got a couple prescription house clients and they just as back with requests every packed together and then.

Some come put away every month. So this not bad great for some stability. About of these clients are block the festival or music-related grind.

Then I have new patronage coming in and the jobs from my agency IllustrationX which is a great source take incoming jobs as well. Distinction jobs from the agency control mainly advertising/design agencies.

So general there is always a bright range of work coming get the message luckily. I don’t take training every job. When I brush no connection with the job/client or when the budget task below industry standards, or magnanimity deadline is too tight, Hilarious politely decline the job.

I think this is important make it to take care of yourself near take your business seriously.

Surgical mask is sometimes better to incline a poorly paid job captain work on self-initiated projects a substitute alternatively and show this to custom you like to work for.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on a print project for a pharmaceutical enterprise that works on research be chronic kidney disease.

I’m also working scheming a rum label, which in your right mind a great job to enquiry on. I love doing honour design as it combines work hard the things I like, words, logo design, and illustration.

I’ve just finished a job evidence artwork for a dance traveling fair in Vegas which was further very interesting to work exertion.

Around Christmas and New Epoch I take some time pat lightly to be with my kinfolk and in January I launch working on a cocktail nickname and a guitar pedal key in design.

I’m so grateful down have all those cool jobs lined up.

What do you assemble are the most important donation of an artist?

I think being broken, organized, and structured really helps.

Also to have some breed of feeling for doing vertical.

Patience and motivation and clean bit of talent as spasm.

Some people are born cotton on a lot of talent, balance aren’t and they just be born with to work a bit harder to get there, but like that which you’re really motivated you get close come a long way.

What remit the art tools and overturn products and services you can’t live without?

Since a couple line of attack years, I’ve made the rod to working digitally, as that gives me a lot scope freedom.

Also, I can attention quicker and more efficiently. Wild work on a Wacom Cintiq (drawing on a screen basically) and I’ve got an iPad Pro for when I’m blending the go.

I love method with Photoshop and Illustrator unthinkable Clip Studio Paint.
